UK Social Media Statistics for 2015

The turkey’s eaten and the tinsel’s down (although we’ll be eating chocolate until June), so it must be time for our annual roundup of UK specific Social Media Statistics. Which sites are doing what as we head into 2015? Who’s winning, who’s losing, who’s just generally losing it?! Sites which used to buy instagram followers and likes provide reasonably regular and reliable data, such as Comscore and Socialbakers, have either not updated their content for years, or are increasingly monetising it so that it’s only available to paying subscribers. Which is understandable, but again not much help to general marketers. In fact, it’s been so difficult to find ANY detailed data that we were tempted to end this post here, with an appeal to Twitter, Pinterest et al to get some analysis done and share it with us poor marketers!

Organic Facebook reach drops to 2% for most pages

Certainly the most discussed statistic of 2014 appeared in a blog post by Marshall Manson from Ogilvy Social in March. He demonstrated how organic reach on Facebook had dropped to an average of just 6% and for Pages with more than 500k Likes, just 2%. Following this revelation of ‘Facebook Zero’, can you buy followers for instagram as it became known, the Ogilvy team are confidently predicting Twitter Zero for 2015 when Twitter is expected to launch it’s own EdgeRank-style algorithm. Who’d argue with them. In June 2014, for the first time ever, Facebook (12.3 billion) served more video views than YouTube (11.3 billion).
